Daniel Chapter 4

King Nebuchaddrezar told Daniel about his dream of the great tree being cut down by decree of the watchers.  Daniel instantly knew the meaning of the dream.  He felt very saddened and alarmed because Daniel understood that Nebuchaddrezar would stumble on sin and be cut down.  Daniel loved his king in my personal opinion.  He was entirely devoted to and trusted by Nebuchaddrezar for many years.  So, naturally, Daniel would be overcome with grief when he knew what would happen.  He told the king he wished the dream was about somebody else, but Nebuchaddrezar implored Daniel to tell him the interpretation.  Daniel told him tha he would be cut down for 7 full years, then restored.  Daniel begged him to turn over a new leaf in life and start being merciful and humble.  But, tragically, after a year Nebuchaddrezar became an even more proud, headstrong tyrant who thought he was somehow a god who had made himself and babylon his great city.  At that very moment he was cut down to the state of an animal until 7 long years passed and he came to his senses and praised the Most High God of Heaven.  God restored him when he humbled.  He reminds me of the prodigal son who Jesus told about who came to his senses, came back to his Father, and was restored.  God is good, and merciful, and forgiving through Jesus Christ His Son.
